Iain Henderson, Cormac Izuchukwu, Nick Timoney, Werner Kok, Nathan Doak, and Aidan Morgan sustained injuries during Saturday’s Investec Champions Cup loss to Bordeaux. On Monday, Ulster announced that these six players will be “monitored through training this week to ascertain their fitness to play in Friday’s fixture”. Ben Carson and Stewart Moore, who incurred injuries during Ulster’s initial Champions Cup match against Toulouse, remain “ongoing doubts” for the upcoming inter-provincial contest. Conversely, Ulster received positive news as scrum-half John Cooney is now available for selection, having returned to full team training. Munster’s loss to Castres over the weekend also resulted in several player setbacks. Craig Casey requires surgery for a meniscus injury. Thaakir Abrahams dislocated his shoulder and will undergo scans to ascertain if surgery is necessary. Dian Bleuler was withdrawn after failing his head injury assessment and is now adhering to return-to-play protocols, while Diarmuid Barron passed his HIA but will be observed due to a shoulder injury. Peter O’Mahony is questionable with a calf contusion, and Jean Kleyn is consulting a specialist regarding a thigh injury.
