The South American football confederation Conmebol has suspended Hull City’s Ecuadorian midfielder, Oscar Zambrano, until further notice due to a breach of anti-doping regulations. Zambrano has made eight appearances for Hull City, starting in five matches, and came on as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s draw against Portsmouth. The 20-year-old player, who joined the Tigers from Ecuadorian club LDU Quito in August on a season-long loan with an option for a permanent transfer, has scored one goal in his eight appearances. Reports indicate that Zambrano reportedly tested positive following the second leg of the Recopa Sudamericana in March; however, he continued to be eligible for play. Hull City has stated that he is now suspended from all football activities with immediate effect for violating doping rules “set out in Articles 6 and 7 of the Conmebol Anti-Doping Regulations.” The club further stated: “Zambrano and his defence will use their right to appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).” They also added: “The club is not in a position to provide further information at this time.” Zambrano registered his inaugural goal for Hull during their 4-1 victory over Cardiff in September. Hull City currently holds the 15th position in the Championship standings, having secured three wins and six draws in 13 matches.
