Bernhard Langer, who became a professional golfer over 50 years ago and holds a record 12 senior major championships, secured a victory at the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship by shooting a score lower than his age. This win extends his streak of claiming a title annually on the PGA Tour Champions’ circuit to 18 consecutive years. The final leaderboard for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship was: -18 B Langer (Ger); -17 S Alker (NZ) R Green (Aus); -13 A Cejka (Ger); -10 R Pampling; -9 K Tanigawa. The 67-year-old golfer clinched a one-stroke victory, finishing at 18 under, by sinking a 30-foot birdie putt on the final hole. This decisive shot resulted in a five-under-par 66, surpassing defending champion Steven Alker and Richard Green. This marks Langer’s 47th title on the over-50s circuit and his initial win since sustaining an Achilles tendon tear in early 2024. Langer, who posted rounds of 69, 64, and 67 at the Phoenix Country Club in Arizona, commented, “It’s unbelievable.” He added, “To win this big tournament after what I’ve been through and to make 18 years in a row out here, it’s quite amazing. I’m very grateful, very blessed.” Langer, a two-time Masters champion, held a five-shot advantage entering the back nine. However, consecutive bogeys on the 10th and 11th holes reduced his lead. A subsequent bogey on the 17th, combined with a birdie from Alker, resulted in both players being tied as they approached the 18th hole. Despite driving his ball into the trees on the par-five closing hole, Langer executed a brilliant birdie. This enabled him to beat his age for the 22nd time and secure the victory, while Alker managed only a par. Steven Alker, the 53-year-old New Zealander, finished in a tie for second place, a result sufficient for him to overtake Ernie Els and claim the season-long Charles Schwab Cup points race. Alker stated, “It would have been nice to win it all, the whole lot, but I’ve got the Schwab Cup and that’s important to me.” Post navigation Daniel Farke Addresses Player Fitness and Team Approach Ahead of Millwall Match Thorup Describes Current Injury Situation as Career’s Worst
