Paul Wotton’s leadership has guided Torquay to eight victories and three defeats across his 15 league matches as the club’s manager. Following a narrow 1-0 victory against Salisbury, Torquay United manager Paul Wotton commended his team’s ‘guts’ and ‘fight’. The decisive goal came in the 85th minute from a Cody Cooke penalty, securing the team’s first win in three matches. This result propelled the Gulls to fourth place in the National League South. With this win, Torquay now trails leaders Eastbourne Borough by three points, holding a game in hand. Speaking to BBC Radio Devon, Wotton expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance despite areas for improvement. “I loved us. Yes we can play better, we can keep the ball better, we can create more chances,” he stated. “But I love a team that’s got a bit of guts and a bit of fight and a bit of desire, and I think the fans love that as well.” He further elaborated on the match dynamics, noting Salisbury’s strong start: “I thought Salisbury started like a train, they started really fast under the lights in front of a good crowd.” Wotton acknowledged the need for a tactical adjustment: “I wouldn’t say we had to weather a storm, but we definitely had to play differently, we had to sit off the game and sacrifice possession and all the boring stuff.” He concluded by highlighting the impact of his substitutes: “Second half I genuinely felt that with our energy on the bench tonight I thought they’d make a difference and that proved to be the case.” Post navigation Carlos Baleba’s Impact Highlighted in Brighton’s Victory Kettlewell Addresses Miller Speculation, Motherwell’s Progress, and Performance Expectations
