Liverpool manager Arne Slot addressed reporters ahead of Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Manchester City, scheduled for a 16:00 GMT kick-off. He shared key insights from his press conference. Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate are currently under assessment following Wednesday’s Champions League victory over Real Madrid, making it premature to determine their availability for the upcoming match. Slot commented that “it is never a good sign when you have to take them off” or when a player is unable to walk around the pitch at the final whistle. However, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been deemed fit enough to start against City. Regarding the perception that Liverpool’s injury issues receive less attention than those of rival teams, Slot stated: “In general, people only talk about injuries if the results are not there. We do have some very important players injured but if the replacements do well then it is normal for it not to be spoken about as much.” Addressing the situation of goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, Slot noted that he has “accepted his role from the start of the season to now and in a great manner,” indicating no change in his position. Slot further remarked: “It is far too early to talk about what can happen next season.” Concerning the upcoming match against Manchester City, particularly amidst their recent dip in form, Slot asserted: “I don’t think anyone in the last eight or nine years has ever said City at home or away is easy. The word never comes into my mind. Not at all. Everyone is looking at their results, but if you analyse it they are still a very good team.” He praised Pep Guardiola, stating that the City manager “is one of the best managers in the world because he always comes up with solutions to his problems” and he “wouldn’t be surprised if he comes up with another brilliant idea that no one has even thought about before” in addressing his squad’s midfield and defensive challenges. Regarding his team’s need for greater discipline to prevent yellow cards, Slot commented: “We have to be aggressive but always in a good way. We have to be a bit more calm with and without the ball.”
