Liverpool supporter Dan Clubbe has stated that permitting Mohamed Salah to depart the club without a transfer fee in the summer would be “insanity” and that the club’s board ought to “move heaven and earth” to ensure his retention. Discussions regarding the forward’s contract negotiations, or the absence of them, are still ongoing. Speaking to BBC Radio Merseyside, Clubbe described the situation as “a bit of a mess,” adding, “I can’t say I blame Salah for speaking out.” He elaborated on his evolving perspective: “I have gone back and forth with it all. From a fan point of view, give him what he wants because the man is a genius and his numbers speak for themselves.” Clubbe acknowledged attempting to view the situation from the club’s standpoint but asserted that Salah’s continued high performance transcends that concern, noting, “Salah shows no sign of slowing down. He’s in peak physical condition and he is so driven and focused.” He concluded, “There is no other option but to give him what he wants. They can move heaven and earth to make it happen.” Clubbe extended this sentiment to other key players, stating, “That could be said for all three of them [Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold], but particularly for Salah because of the form he is in.” He emphatically warned, “You cannot let that man walk away for free. That is insanity.” Henry Winter, a football broadcaster and writer, expressed his view that it is “strange” for a “well run” club such as Liverpool to have allowed player contract situations to progress to such a late stage. He further informed BBC Radio Merseyside, “I am not completely surprised in terms of the way Mo Salah, who is a very intelligent individual, is handling this.” Winter observed Salah’s approach, stating, “He is doing it very acutely. Talking to the media, and he rarely talks to the written press, so he obviously trusted four or five of the journalists there at St Mary’s and wanted to get his message over to them. And, he has got a very compelling argument.” Winter addressed the common concern regarding player age, noting that owners like FSG tend to be “cautious about handing out contracts when players start straying into their 30s.” However, he countered this by asserting, “But you can’t lump all 30-somethings as the same.” He projected Salah’s continued effectiveness, stating, “You can still see him playing and delivering when he is 34 or 35.” Winter concluded by emphasizing, “It is vital that they keep him and there will be some sensible negotiating going on.” Post navigation Celtic and RB Leipzig: Matchup Statistics Motherwell’s Paton Describes Injury Lay-off as Career’s ‘Toughest Time’
