The Wales women’s national team is scheduled to play two Test matches against Australia in 2025, coinciding with the British and Irish Lions men’s tour. This tour follows Wales’ qualification for the 2025 World Cup, achieved through their performance at WXV2 in South Africa in autumn 2024. The Wallaroos are set to host Wales for the first Test on Friday, 26 July, in Brisbane. The two women’s teams will compete again a week later in Sydney, a day before the second Wallabies versus Lions men’s Test match in the same city. Wales, currently ranked 10th globally, five positions below Australia, intends to utilize this tour as preparation for the 2025 World Cup in England. Specific venues and match times for the tour fixtures are expected to be announced early next year. Wales captain Hannah Jones commented on the upcoming tour, stating: “Playing Australia in their own backyard would be a challenge for any side, but it is a challenge we are looking forward to ahead of the 2025 World Cup in England in August and September.” She added, “Knowing what a sports-mad nation Australia is, having lived and played rugby there, to play the Wallaroos when rugby union will be very much at the front of everyone’s mind with the Lions Test series being played is an exciting prospect.” In recent encounters, Wales secured their first-ever victory against Australia in September 2024. However, the Wallaroos retaliated by defeating Wales later that month during WXV2 in South Africa. Prior to the Australian tour, Wales will host two 2025 Six Nations matches: one against England at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Saturday, 29 March, and another against Ireland at Rodney Parade in Newport on Sunday, 20 April.
