Head coach Luke Williams stated he would be “amazed” if other clubs had not shown interest in Ben Cabango and Harry Darling, yet he affirmed that Swansea City is making every effort to secure the two centre-backs’ presence past the current season. Cabango, a 24-year-old Wales international, and Darling, 25, both have contracts with Swansea that are set to conclude next summer. Williams, who has described them as the Championship’s top central defensive partnership this season, considers it inevitable that other teams would be interested in the pair. However, Swansea’s head coach indicated that club chairman Andy Coleman is diligently working to finalize new agreements with Cabango and Darling. Williams commented, “I have had a lot of communication with Andy Coleman and he has been very aggressive in this situation with these two players in particular, in a really positive way,” adding, “I have enjoyed that. This has been something new for me since I’ve been here – the real motivation to go and get things done, to communicate with the players and their agents thoroughly and respectfully.” He concluded, “I am happy we have done everything we can and now we have to see if we have done enough to convince these really good players to stay with us.” Last month, Williams had stated that Swansea needed to “build bridges” with the agents representing Cabango and Darling, attributing this to previous delays in discussing potential new contracts. In September, Darling had publicly stated that “no talks” had occurred with Swansea regarding his contract situation, to which Williams responded by emphasizing the club’s need for “urgency” at that time. Cabango and Darling have been among Swansea’s standout players this season, and Williams maintains that their dedication to the team is “unquestionable,” even though they are eligible to become free agents in six months. Nevertheless, Williams expressed his belief that the two players are likely cognizant of potential interest from other organizations. He further stated, “A lot of time has elapsed and they have to make sure when time is passing that they have options out there,” adding, “They have to consider them of course – they are not doing anything wrong.” Williams then remarked, “I don’t know, but I’d be amazed if there hasn’t been contact between their agents and other clubs.” Williams concluded, “Let’s see what we can do now and hopefully between myself, the other squad members and the board, we can convince them that this is the best place for them to continue to their careers.” Post navigation Clement Expresses Confidence in Barron’s Readiness for Pittodrie Encounter Rangers Secure Narrow 1-0 Victory Against Hearts at Ibrox
