Young Man Imprisoned for Sexual Assaults on Two Teenage Girls

A 19-year-old, described as “warped,” has been incarcerated for the sexual assault of two 16-year-old girls, both of whom were returning home during nighttime hours. Nathan John carried out these attacks on the girls, which occurred with a separation of 19 months and a distance of ten miles between the incidents. John received a guilty verdict for three charges of rape and sexual assault at Swansea Crown Court. He received a 20-year extended sentence, comprising 16 years of detention within a young offenders institute and an additional four years to be served on licence. The court was informed that he initiated a “frenzy of sexual violence” under the cover of darkness, following the girls’ rejection of his advances as they were heading home after an evening out. John refuted the allegations concerning the first rape, which took place in October 2022 in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, and the second, which occurred in Haverfordwest in May 2024. He encountered the first girl at Circles nightclub in Milford Haven, where he kissed her but she “wasn’t interested in anything else.” However, he accompanied her home, subsequently forcing her to the ground, removing his trousers, and then perpetrating “a frenzy of sexual violence.” John was apprehended and, during an interview with police, asserted that the girl had given consent, leading to his release under investigation. Nevertheless, his actions were exposed when he carried out an identical assault on a different girl 19 months subsequent to the first incident. The second victim was socializing with friends when John proposed they walk home together. He threatened her, stating: “If you don’t do it I’m going to kill you.” Following this, he raped her. John once more asserted that the sexual act had been consensual. Prosecutor James Hartson urged the jury to take into account “the striking similarity between these two allegations, ten miles and 19 months apart, made by two young women who do not know each other.” “He’s a man who is powerfully built,” he said. “When he decided he wanted sex, these two girls – isolated and alone – didn’t stand a chance.” “This young man doesn’t take no for an answer.” John also faced charges for two offenses involving the creation of indecent images of children—specifically, one Category B and one Category C image—and for possessing an extreme pornographic image, with these acts occurring between July and September of the previous year. Judge Huw Rees informed him: “These are undoubtedly serious offences. Two offences which included features of degradation and violence.” “Both were 16 years old. Both were lured in to isolation.” “You demeaned both of these girls and in the process you demeaned yourself as a human being,” he said. “You have a warped interest in sex.” “I readily find that you pose a danger to young girls and young women.” John is required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
