A man from Yorkshire, who departed his family’s farm to pursue his ambitions in Australia, has reached the final of The Great Australian Bake Off. Elliot Styche, aged 34, grew up in the village of Ryehill, near Withernsea, but now works as a vocal coach and musical theatre director in Sydney. He stated he could “not quite believe” his semi-final win, having been awarded star baker for his petit fours. The final episode is scheduled to air in Australia on Wednesday, at 09:30 GMT. Among Mr. Styche’s more remarkable culinary creations have been a piano featuring a flashing dancefloor and a cruise ship biscuit. However, he quipped that he “should have done a Withernsea lighthouse,” as a tribute to a renowned Yorkshire landmark. He remarked, “Maybe that’s what I’ll do for the finale.” Mr. Styche’s experience in the Bake Off shed – the Australian counterpart to the well-known tent – has not been without its difficulties. He commented, “We’ve had a couple of undercooked things, a couple of risky decorations, but I’ve managed to hang on by the skin of my teeth all the way through to the end.” He added, “I definitely feel some pressure, making sure I represent Yorkshire and Hull in the right way over here in Australia.” According to his mother, Diane, Mr. Styche hails from a lineage of bakers. She explained, “My granddad was a pig farmer, but he used to ice wedding cakes and celebration cakes – all the intricate piping.” She further suggested, “I think that’s where he is getting a lot of his piping ideas from.” She has been following his progress from the UK, alongside his sisters Charlotte Harland and Bethany Pearson. Ms. Harland stated, “I always expected him to do well. He’s just one of those people, he thrives and he pushes himself really far.” Regarding whether they believe he will win, Ms. Pearson responded, “I really hope so.” She concluded, “It would be the icing on top of the cake.” Post navigation Food Safety Team Honored for Allergen Awareness Initiatives Norwich Charity Reports Record Demand for Christmas Support Hampers
