Proposals have been submitted to extend the operation of a temporary health facility in York for an additional two years. Nimbuscare, an NHS provider that manages the centre situated at the former Askham Bar park and ride, located off Tadcaster Road, additionally seeks to enlarge its premises. According to its submitted application, the centre has been instrumental in alleviating strain on York Hospital and decreasing patient waiting periods. The facility “would offer services including vaccines, coronavirus recovery care and blood-taking as well as hosting GPs and benefits and financial advisers.” The proposed expansion involves incorporating between 10 and 20 treatment rooms for patients with appointments, with a maximum of 30 staff members present during operational hours. The proposal includes an increase in on-site parking capacity to 214 spaces, comprising eight bays for parent and child, 19 for disabled individuals, 55 for staff, and 10 for motorcycles. Furthermore, 34 bicycle spaces, along with lockers and dedicated areas for mobility scooters, would be situated at the front of the structures, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. Nimbuscare initially established a mass Covid vaccination centre at this location in 2020. The application indicates that the site recorded more than 600,000 patient visits between 2020 and 2022. Beyond healthcare provisions, the application also noted that financial advisors from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and Citizens Advice would operate from the premises. The application further specified that “the centre was designed to bring services into local neighbourhoods which people would previously have had to travel for.” The site, owned by York Council, is slated for residential development once its extended two-year operational period concludes.
