Phil Parkinson, the manager of Wrexham, has confirmed that goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo will not need surgery for his broken wrist. The 23-year-old Okonkwo sustained the injury on 9 November during Wrexham’s 1-0 victory against Mansfield Town. Prior to the injury, the former Arsenal player had been a consistent starter in goal for Wrexham throughout their League One campaign this season. Parkinson informed BBC Sport Wales, stating: “The good news with the fracture is he doesn’t need an operation,” adding, “Hopefully it’s just going to be the six weeks which is the minimum we thought it would be.” He also commented on the other players, saying, “While he’s out the other lads are enjoying their moment.” Callum Burton, who joined the team from Plymouth Argyle in the summer, was in goal for Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against Stockport County. Wrexham’s roster also includes veteran goalkeeper Mark Howard and young player Liam Hall, while Luke McNicholas is currently on a season-long loan spell with Rochdale. Parkinson further commented: “The keeper department is strong,” and continued, “You’re always one moment away from getting your opportunity.” He praised the other goalkeepers, saying, “Callum, Mark Howard and young Liam have worked really hard. Every single day they’re right at it and are a great example.” He elaborated on their experience: “Callum’s played at this level before for Plymouth and he knows the division – he’s an experienced goalkeeper and so is Mark.” Regarding Luke McNicholas, Parkinson stated: “Luke, who unfortunately is injured, but has done really well on loan at Rochdale.”
