Wrexham’s goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo, who joined the club permanently in the summer of 2024, has recommenced light training sessions; however, manager Phil Parkinson has indicated that his return to full play will not be expedited. This follows Okonkwo sustaining a broken wrist on 9 November during Wrexham’s 1-0 triumph against Mansfield Town. The 23-year-old player did not necessitate surgical intervention but was initially sidelined for a period of six weeks. Manager Parkinson informed BBC Wales Sport, stating, “Arthur’s got a scan next Wednesday to confirm that the bone has healed properly.” He further added, “We will take it from there with the advice from the specialist after that consultation.” Parkinson also mentioned, “He’s been back on the training field this week working on his fitness and other aspects of goalkeeping – obviously not handling.” Concluding his remarks on Okonkwo, Parkinson stated, “He’s been back out with us and it’s been good to have him back on the training pitch.” Callum Burton had taken Okonkwo’s place in the team but later sustained a thigh injury during the 1-0 victory against Barnsley on 3 December. Parkinson indicated that Burton might be out for the remainder of the season, meaning veteran player Mark Howard is expected to remain as goalkeeper for the upcoming League One fixture on Saturday against Cambridge United. Additionally, Wrexham has secured Brad Foster on a short-term agreement to provide injury cover. In other team news, striker Paul Mullin has been a substitute in recent matches, while Steven Fletcher has participated in Wrexham’s last two league fixtures following his recovery from a knee injury. Parkinson further commented, “Mulls is ready and chomping at the bit,” and added, “Fletch is back as well, which is great to see.” He elaborated on Fletcher’s return, stating, “Fletch is feeling a lot better and is a boost for us because the quality he brings is above the level.” Parkinson continued, “We’ve been building him up in training and he’s ready to make a contribution as we go into this busy period.” He concluded his team assessment by saying, “We’ve got a good squad and we’ll need everybody for this run of games coming up.”
