A worker experienced an embarrassing incident when his daughter’s bright pink mobile phone became encased in a recently constructed ice rink. The individual had placed the device at the edge of the rink during its construction phase in Milton Keynes. However, after 60,000 litres (13,000 gallons) of water were introduced into the structure, destined to host the Willen on Ice experience, the phone became trapped within the newly formed ice. According to Rob Cook, director at Ice Leisure, the phone must stay embedded for the next two months because attempting to excavate it could compromise the ice’s structural integrity. The bright pink item, which the worker was using after misplacing his own phone, was not discovered frozen in the center of the rink until the subsequent day by a team member. The circumstances of how it ended up there, whether by accident or as a prank by a colleague, remain unclear. Mr. Cook stated: “Unfortunately, there is no way we will be able to get the phone out of the ice now. If we were to dig it out, it would affect the structure of the ice so it’ll remain entombed for the next two months.” The embarrassed worker, who requested anonymity, commented: “My daughter wasn’t happy at the start, especially as she has just bought the new phone case, but after a short time – and the promise of a temporary replacement phone – she cooled off.”
