The well-regarded Splashpad located in Worcester’s Gheluvelt Park is slated for renovation, following city councillors’ endorsement of a £366,000 investment. This water play attraction, which commenced operation 14 years ago, has been experiencing ongoing maintenance issues, including being non-operational for over two weeks during the recent summer period. The allocated funds are designated for replacing the existing filtration system and enhancing the safety surface. Lynn Denham, who serves as both the Council leader and chair of the policy and resources committee, indicated that the Splashpad’s external appearance would remain unchanged for visitors. Denham emphasized the significance of the facility, stating, “Having a free water play facility for children to enjoy throughout the summer months is vitally important for Worcester.” She further added, “The cross-party support for the Splashpad repairs proves its popularity and the need to spend this money to keep it open for families to enjoy for many years to come.” The commencement of the renovation work is scheduled for February, with the Splashpad anticipated to reopen in May for the summer season.
