Organizers of a Christmas Day parkrun in Worcester have announced that “everyone” is welcome, following an event last year that attracted 700 participants. The run is scheduled to begin at 09:00 GMT, with individuals starting at County Hall and proceeding around Worcester Woods. Event organiser Richard Ralphs described the anticipated atmosphere on 25 December, noting “lots of Santa hats, people dressed in Santa suits, elves, fairies – anything goes on Christmas Day”. He also commented on a common festive decision, adding: “It’s a big dilemma. Do you open your presents before or do you wait till afterwards?” Mr. Ralphs mentioned that participants from Australia are currently present, and others are expected from New Zealand, in anticipation of the Worcester Parkrun. He highlighted the special nature of the Christmas Day event, stating: “Especially on Christmas Day it’s… just a day when we can sort of all get together and not think too much about the times and running fast.” Mr. Ralphs further explained that the occasion allows participants to “celebrate all being together and meeting family who’ve come up from around different parts of the world.” The organiser characterized the event as “really good fun,” expressing surprise: “I can’t believe how many people come on Christmas Day, to be honest.” He also detailed the refreshments available, saying: “We get straight into the mince pies in fact before and after the event.” Additionally, he noted that “Some people even bring their own mulled wine [and] obviously get a lift home afterwards.” Mr. Ralphs also drew attention to similar events held in Arrow Valley, Evesham, and Hereford.
