It has come to light, according to BBC Scotland News, that a woman who died after being attacked by her own dog in Aberdeen had previously faced charges concerning an earlier incident involving another dog. Michelle McLeod, aged 41, was pronounced dead at the location on Foresterhill Road in the city on Saturday evening, following the arrival of emergency personnel. The dog, identified as an American Bulldog named Bailey, was subsequently put down. Police Scotland verified that a woman had been charged subsequent to a report in June detailing a dog attack on another animal within the same vicinity. A statement from Police Scotland confirmed: “A 41-year-old woman was charged following a report of a dog attacking another dog near to Foresterhill Road, Aberdeen, on Friday, 7 June.” The statement further noted: “The injured dog was taken to a vet for treatment to minor injuries.” It concluded: “A report was submitted to the procurator fiscal.” Klaudia Jackowska, a 23-year-old neighbour, recounted the assault on her border collie, Clyde, and stated she informed the police. She informed BBC Scotland News: “We have a communal garden and Clyde was running about outside.” She continued: “Michelle came out with Bailey, she let go of Bailey’s lead, and although he was muzzled, it wasn’t fitted [properly], he somehow managed to get a grip on my dog.” Jackowska further detailed: “I heard my partner scream. I ran out to see what was happening and I saw the dog on top of my dog. I jumped on top of the dog.” She added: “Once I jumped on, the muzzle slipped completely. We had 15 minutes of trying to get the dog off my dog.” She clarified: “Clyde had three tiny bite marks. We took him to the vet and he got antibiotics to prevent infection.” She affirmed: “We reported it at the time. We called the police.” Jackowska mentioned that a dog warden was also contacted, and she was informed that no action could be taken without additional reports. Aberdeen City Council declined to provide a statement. Regarding the death of Bailey’s owner, Clyde’s owner remarked: “When we heard the news it was a shock.” In a statement, Ms McLeod’s family expressed: “She was a much-loved mother, daughter and friend to many and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.” They further stated: “We are devastated by the loss of Michelle.” Local councillor Deena Tissera commented: “It was absolutely devastating to hear about the tragedy of a life taken away because of a dog attack.” She emphasized: “We need to investigate the issue properly, and once that investigation is complete, we need to ensure that we take the necessary steps to ensure that public safety comes first.” The copyright for this content is held by BBC, 2024, with all rights reserved.
