A financial penalty has been imposed on a woman following the discovery of illegally discarded refuse, which included a refrigerator, on a rural road. The illicit disposal site was located in Ambion Lane, Sutton Cheney, situated close to Hinckley in Leicestershire. The items abandoned in a gateway consisted of a refrigerator, general household refuse, food remnants, interior doors, a builder’s bag filled with rubble, and cannabis plants. According to the Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, evidence recovered from the discarded materials established a connection to Jade Kavanagh, aged 30. On Wednesday, October 23, Ms. Kavanagh, residing at Beryl Avenue in Hinckley, admitted guilt to charges of discarding the refrigerator and two refuse bags. The local authority stated that she had previously received a £400 fixed penalty notice from the council, which she had not paid. However, at Leicester Magistrates’ Court, she received an order to pay a fine of £334 and a victim surcharge of £134, resulting in a total expenditure of £468. Following the court proceedings, Councillor Lynda Hodgkins expressed gratitude to the prosecution team for their efforts and articulated her hope that the outcome would “make people think twice before illegally dumping their waste”. The council also indicated that, effective April, its fixed penalty notice for fly-tipping had increased twofold to £800.
