Citizens of Wolverhampton are encouraged to cast their votes in favor of the city’s proposal to host an event recognizing individuals’ journeys of recovery from addiction. According to the city council, the National Recovery Walk is an annual event that takes place in various towns and cities, featuring a parade of individuals in recovery, accompanied by their families and friends, within a designated “Recovery Village.” Wolverhampton received an invitation to submit a proposal to host the event in 2025 and is currently soliciting online votes from the public to support its bid, having been shortlisted alongside Solihull. Should Wolverhampton’s bid prove successful, the event is scheduled to take place at West Park on September 13. The Good Shepherd and Wolverhampton Voluntary and Community Action’s Service User Involvement Team (SUIT) are spearheading this initiative, and individuals can cast their votes on social media through Faces and Voices of Recovery (FAVOUR). Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, who serves as the cabinet member for adults and wellbeing, encouraged the public to lend their support to this endeavor. “Hosting the National Recovery Walk will be a great opportunity to highlight the importance of recovery and demonstrate our city’s commitment to supporting those on their recovery journey.” “As a council, we are dedicated to promoting health and wellbeing, and we see this event as a vital step in our ongoing efforts to support recovery and resilience in our communities.” Information from BBC Wolverhampton & Black Country is available on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
