The headteacher of a primary school conveyed his “really proud” sentiment regarding his school’s recording of a charity single. Winton Primary School, situated in Bournemouth, composed and recorded a track titled Things That Remind Me Of Christmas. Head teacher Neil Tarchetti indicated that the entire school participated, and the children appreciated the sensation of being in an authentic recording studio. Mr. Tarchetti remarked, “We’ve got a great bunch [of children] here and they got really excited by this… they loved doing it.” Mr. Tarchetti explained that the concept for recording a Christmas single originated with Melanie Elliott, a music teacher at the institution. He further elaborated, “She worked with some of the children in her after school clubs to come up with the lyrics.” Mr. Tarchetti added, “That’s where the title came from. She started off talking to them about things that reminded them of Christmas and it sort of built from there, and a lot of the lyrics are direct quotes from things that they came up with.” Subsequently, Mrs. Elliott composed the music for the song and determined she wished to offer the students a genuine recording experience. Mr. Tarchetti conveyed, “She wanted to give the children an opportunity to be recording artists.” He described the setup, stating, “We set up a recording studio in the music room and one of our teaching assistants is a music producer, so he bought in a special valve microphone, they had the headphones, it was the proper experience for them.” He commented that the track they created was “great” and had been very well received by audiences. He observed, “We noticed at some of the performances we’ve done, the little siblings, the toddlers and the parents who come to watch, are already singing along because they’ve picked it up.” He concluded by saying, “It’s so catchy.” You can follow BBC Dorset on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram.
