Car ferry operations have been halted for a minimum of one week due to a mechanical malfunction, a council announced. The Windermere Ferry, which offers motorists a shorter route around the lake, ceased functioning on Thursday. Westmorland and Furness Council stated that an initial assessment uncovered a defect with one of the drive wheels, which must be repaired before the service can restart. The council indicated that the Mallard would remain non-operational until at least 21 November. The council added that the service was suspended “for the safety of our passengers and crew,” and a clearly marked diversion route is now active.
