Henry Patten, who secured a record 10 doubles titles on the Challenger Tour in 2022 and is now a Wimbledon champion, foresees a more demanding 2025 season. This outlook stems from his rise of over 50 places in the doubles rankings this year, a development that has captured the attention of his rivals. The 28-year-old athlete, alongside his Finnish partner Harri Heliovaara, claimed victory in the men’s doubles at the All England Club. His world ranking has climbed from 69th to its current 14th position, having reached a peak of 12th in August. This Wimbledon success marked one of four titles the duo has secured over the last year. Despite Patten and Heliovaara, who is ranked world number 16, being defeated in the semi-finals of the ATP Tour finals in Italy last week, they are now recognized as part of the doubles elite. Patten conveyed to BBC Essex Sport, “After Wimbledon, we’re a lot more on people’s radar, we spend a lot more time with the top guys in the game now, week in, week out.” He further stated, “Our [recent] results have been mixed so we haven’t had a crazy good end to the year.” Patten reflected, “In one sense it’s been great in that it [winning Wimbledon] has given us confidence that we can compete with everyone and win any tournament we play but at the same time maybe there’s more pressure there.” He added, “Maybe guys are a little more prepared to play us, they’re scouting us because we’ve been around a little bit more. It’s mixed but I’m not complaining.” Following their Wimbledon victory, Patten and Heliovaara were eliminated in the third round of the US Open. However, they subsequently advanced to the final of the ATP 500 event in Beijing and secured another title in Stockholm last month. Patten remarked, “It’s nice to reflect on what a journey this year has been.” He continued, “I always had belief in myself, but at the same time tennis is a difficult sport and you have to respect the game that way.” He concluded, “Some matches you win, some you lose and sometimes it’s not necessarily in your control no matter how hard you’re working or how much potential you have.” Patten, a native of Manningtree in Essex, intends to take a two-week hiatus to visit his girlfriend in the USA before traveling to Australia to commence preparations for the 2025 season. He further stated, “The tour starts in Australia – it’s really early this year just with how the dates fall, so I’m going to fly out on 22 December, have Christmas there, which will be a first and an interesting experience, I’m quite looking forward to it.”
