As Remembrance Sunday approaches, Wiltshire, a county home to thousands of military personnel and the expansive Salisbury Plain training area, has showcased numerous poppy displays. Each year, the Royal British Legion establishes a Field of Remembrance at Lydiard Park in Swindon. This location, one of six across the United Kingdom, features over three thousand markers, each dedicated to an individual who perished while serving. Concurrently, the historic Salisbury Cathedral has drawn large evening crowds for its Sarum Lights event, an immersive spectacle of light and sound centered on the theme of time. Knitted tribute: Salisbury City Council’s Remembrance display, created in 2018 to commemorate the centenary of World War One’s conclusion, is visible atop the Guildhall. Local artist Charlotte Moreton constructed the display, with residents contributing the knitted poppies. Poignant poppies: Retailers throughout Melksham have observed the Remembrance period by creating window displays. The town council organized a competition to identify the most outstanding display. Bonfire night: The village of Colerne undertakes an annual endeavor to construct a large bonfire, with this year’s fort structure being consistent with previous efforts. This event supports the local church, and the bonfire’s ignition draws approximately 1,000 attendees. Swim challenge: BBC local radio personnel are undertaking a 1,000-mile swimming challenge for Children in Need, and the Wiltshire team successfully reached its 24-mile target this week. Reporter Kelly Morgan received numerous layers of clothing upon exiting an early morning swim in a cold lake. Sarum Lights: Salisbury Cathedral hosted its yearly light and sound show this week. Conceived by Luxmuralis, the event explored the theme of time, guiding visitors through history both within and on the exterior of the cathedral.
