A local authority has received approximately £7 million in government funds for investment in its bus network over the upcoming two-year period. Specifically, Wiltshire Council obtained this grant from the Department of Transport, allocated under the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), with the aim of enhancing services within the county during 2025 and 2026. Among the planned enhancements are the extension of operating hours and an increase in the frequency of certain routes. Councillor Tamara Reay, who holds the cabinet portfolio for transport, stated that these funds will additionally enable the council to improve the “bus passenger experience” for residents across Wiltshire. Councillor Reay further commented: “With this funding we can now build on the proposals outlined in our Bus Service Improvement Plan to provide more enhanced bus services across the county, as well as other investments to help improve the bus passenger experience.“Most Wiltshire buses are £2 or less for a single journey, and although this will rise to a maximum single fare of £3 in January, it still represents great value to travel to work, to explore our beautiful county, or as an alternative to taking the car.” The council indicated its “significant” investment in bus services throughout the county, affirming that it is “always looking at innovative ways to deliver the right services that benefit the most people”.
