An organization that has accumulated £4,000 for various causes stated that its Santa float represents a cherished tradition for both children and adults. The Whittlesey Round Table annually organizes a Santa float in the town, situated near Peterborough, during the lead-up to Christmas. Its aims are to “spread cheer” and generate donations for different organizations. Stuart Rayner, chairman of the round table, reported that this year’s touring float commenced on November 29 and concluded over the weekend. He remarked, “Adults wait to cheer the Santa float and kids smiling and jumping keeps us going.” Round Table groups operate as non-political and non-religious entities, arranging activities for young men while simultaneously providing assistance to local communities and charities. Mr. Rayner further explained that the local branch, which consists of 18 volunteers, supports diverse causes and organizations throughout the year using the funds gathered during the festive season. As part of the fundraising initiative, the Santa float visits every street within Whittlesey. However, last week’s scheduled appearances were canceled due to powerful winds from Storm Darragh. Mr. Rayner announced that Kidney Research UK and Prostate Cancer UK are designated as the primary charities to be supported in 2025. He emphasized, “The money we raise is essential for charities.” He continued, “Some of them wouldn’t be able to continue without the funding support we offer. We still have three nights of visits left so we hope to raise more than what he have already.” He also added, “On Saturday, we also have the Whittlesey Extravaganza in the town centre with craft and festive stalls – hoping to attract a good crowd.” For updates on Peterborough news, follow BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
