A family-operated butcher business in West Sussex is appealing for public assistance after its delivery van, containing over £2,000 worth of Christmas orders, was stolen. Sussex Police reported that the white Ford Transit Custom vehicle was stolen on Thursday morning from Cuckfield. Paula Hutchings, representing SK Hutchings in Partridge Green, expressed her profound distress regarding the theft, stating she was “devastated” and that “[It has] nearly broken us.” Ms. Hutchings further noted that the van was “laden with our homemade sausages, home-cured bacon and meats supplied from our farm.” Speaking to BBC Radio Sussex, Ms. Hutchings described the refrigerated van as “the family’s livelihood.” She explained that the business now faces the task of redoing all affected orders and securing a replacement refrigerated vehicle. She found the theft “hard to comprehend” and extended gratitude to her Christmas customers for their understanding. Ms. Hutchings urged the public to watch out for “anyone who is suddenly offering a large quantity of sausages and bacon for sale.” Sussex Police confirmed that a “widespread search effort” has been initiated to find the stolen van and is requesting that anyone with information pertinent to the theft contact them.
