West Bromwich Albion defender Torbjorn Heggem encountered a mix of emotions during an afternoon match where his team secured only a single point against Sheffield United, the current leaders of the Championship. The Norwegian player expressed his joy at achieving his inaugural goal for the team, witnessed by friends visiting from Scandinavia. He shared with BBC Radio WM, “I had some friends over from Norway watching. It was a great game, four goals and they saw me score too.” Heggem further stated, “I love the support I get from the Albion fans so it was good to score and give them something back. A great feeling. “I have felt closer and closer to my first goal and it was really good to get it from a set piece – one of the things we’d been working on. It was a great delivery and I was happy with the finish.”” However, just 13 minutes after Heggem’s goal gave Albion the lead, the Blades responded with two rapid goals before half-time, taking the advantage. Despite West Brom’s consistent attacking pressure throughout the match, they ultimately secured only a draw when a cross from Tom Fellows was fortunately deflected into the net. Heggem commented, “We were really good for the first 30 minutes,” adding, “We were trying to press them high. We were really trying and digging deep to get three points. But they punished us.” He concluded, “And it is frustrating. We are drawing too many matches. We need to win games.”” This result marks Albion’s tenth draw in their last eleven matches, causing the team, which led the Championship in September, to fall to eighth place, now trailing the top spot by 10 points as they approach Wednesday night’s Midlands derby against Coventry City. Torbjorn Heggem’s comments were made during an interview with Steve Hermon of BBC Radio WM.
