The Welsh Feathers achieved a clean sweep in their two-match series against Zimbabwe, securing a 62-41 victory over the Gems in the second test held in Cardiff. Vicky Booth made her debut during this series. Wales established an early five-goal advantage, concluding the first quarter with an 18-13 lead, despite vice captain and shooter Phillipa Yarrington leaving the game due to injury midway through the period. Exceptional defensive play by goal keeper Leah Middleton, combined with unforced errors from Zimbabwe’s centre Anifa Luya, enabled the Welsh Feathers to widen their lead, entering halftime with a 32-23 score. Despite the Gems’ persistent efforts, they were unable to reduce the deficit during the final two quarters. The Welsh Feathers maintained their pressure and successfully converted their scoring opportunities, ultimately securing the win and a decisive 2-0 test series victory, following their 50-42 triumph in the initial match. Both teams are scheduled to compete again on Thursday, November 7, participating in the inaugural Celtic Cup in Glasgow, where they will encounter Scotland and Northern Ireland. Vicky Booth, named player of the series, shared her thoughts with BBC Sport Wales, stating: “I feel amazing right now. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I came into this with no expectations whatsoever, I didn’t even expect to get court time, so I’m over the moon with how it’s gone.“The two wins on the trot is really important for us. We’ve come off a long block of training so it was good to get on court this weekend.“It’ll be really good to get up there and back on court [in Glasgow for the inaugural Celtic Cup]. This was a bit of prep for us, so it’ll be really interesting to see how we go against two or three very different teams, especially Scotland.””
