The Welsh Feathers secured a 50-42 victory over Zimbabwe in Cardiff, overcoming an initial deficit to win the first match of their two-game series. Goal shooter Georgia Rowe earned her 67th cap during the contest. Both national teams are currently preparing for the inaugural Celtic Cup, which is scheduled to commence on Thursday, 7 November, in Glasgow. Zimbabwe concluded the first quarter with a narrow 11-9 lead. Elizabeth Mushore notably impressed in defence, limiting scoring opportunities for home goal shooter Georgia Rowe. However, six minutes into the second quarter, Wales gained the lead for the first time, having created increased shooting circle chances for Rowe. The Welsh side maintained their 25-23 half-time advantage throughout the remainder of the game, with Rowe notably contributing 15 goals in the second half. Despite Zimbabwe temporarily losing Mashore due to an injury, they were unable to reduce the deficit, allowing Wales to maintain their lead and clinch the win. The two teams are set to face each other again in Cardiff on Saturday for the concluding match of the series. Wales captain Bethan Dyke commented to BBC Sport Wales: “It’s great to get off to a winning start but we were really disappointed with that performance.”It’s not how we wanted to start but it’s one from one [in the series], we’ll go away and look at the footage and we will be better tomorrow [in Saturday’s second match].”A lot of things were in our control tonight, so a lot of our own errors which we will be looking to tidy up tomorrow.” Post navigation Martin Kelly Discusses Liverpool’s Momentum Under New Manager Arne Slot Mikel Arteta’s Five-Year Arsenal Tenure: Fan Views on Progress and the Quest for Silverware
