Enthusiasts of the Great British Bake Off might soon have the opportunity to marry at the estate where the popular television series is filmed, provided a current application receives approval. Welford Park, located near Newbury in Berkshire, has served as the filming site for the program from 2014 to 2019, and again since 2022. Forest Edge Tipis has been utilizing a woodland area on the property for wedding receptions for up to 28 days annually, but the company now seeks permission to conduct events between April and September. This expanded operation would involve erecting temporary tipis and tents for wedding ceremonies, catering services, and toilet facilities, alongside providing parking for as many as 40 vehicles. The company already manages bespoke wedding events at other locations, including Sheepdrove Organic Farm in Lambourn. As part of the proposed initiative for Welford Park, the designated area on the family-owned estate would revert to its natural woodland state from October through March. The site is situated within both a Local Wildlife Site and the North Wessex Downs National Landscape. The estate is also well-known for its display of snowdrops and its yearly Spectacle of Light show, which runs between October and November. Forest Edge Tipis has stated its opinion that the proposal would not have a “significant impact” on neighbours. The company further noted that West Berkshire Council has not recorded any noise complaints despite its events being held at Welford Park for five years. A decision from the local authority regarding the company’s planning application is anticipated in the coming months. In related news, Georgie Grasso, from Carmarthenshire, achieved recognition as the first Welsh victor of the Great British Bake Off, having been awarded the title of series 15’s top baker last week.
