Permission has been granted by councillors for jousters to continue entertaining visitors at Warwick Castle for an additional five years. The two-year permit for the jousting arena, situated on River Island within the castle’s grounds, concluded this year. Merlin Attractions, the operators, had sought an extension from Warwick District Council. This approval allows the show to be staged annually from late May to early September, continuing through 2029. Although nine individuals raised objections to the proposals, Warwick Town Council endorsed the designs, citing the anticipated increase in visitor numbers and the resulting positive economic impact on the local area. Lucy Hammond, a planning officer at Warwick District Council, stated that the performances usually last 30 minutes and are presented twice daily throughout the authorized months. According to the district council’s report, it was noted: “The physical changes to the jousting arena are considered minor in nature and do not increase the level of harm associated with the proposal.” The proposals, described as “almost identical” to those implemented over the preceding two years, received unanimous approval from the councillors. The Local Democracy Reporting Service, which reports on councils and various public service organizations, compiled this information.
