A development firm has initiated a public consultation regarding its proposal for constructing 3,500 residential units within North East Lincolnshire. The designated Grimsby West location, situated close to Great Coates, is envisioned to incorporate a new primary educational institution, an access route, and multiple community facilities. Harworth Group and M.F. Strawson Ltd, the developers behind the project, characterized the initiative as “delivering a mix of housing and local facilities for a wide range of people”. Conversely, a coalition of independent councillors, who are against the proposal, stated that the region was “in danger of becoming one mass of urban sprawl”. The Local Democracy Reporting Service reported that the Independent Group for North East Lincolnshire councillors secured their election following a campaign focused on opposing this development. The group expressed concerns that the 3,500 residences “will concrete over a huge swathe of the countryside”, leading to heightened traffic congestion on nearby thoroughfares and amplified strain on local provisions, including healthcare services. In response, the developers indicated that a country park would be established to provide “a protective buffer” for the River Freshney, asserting that the locality would feature a “diverse ecological and recreational green infrastructure”. The project’s official website describes the initiative as incorporating “energy efficient housing” and promoting “sustainable travel”. A public drop-in event is scheduled to take place at the Pelham Suite on Cambridge Road, Grimsby, between 16:30 and 19:30 GMT on December 3. Members of the public are also able to submit their feedback through the development’s dedicated website.
