Derby County’s head coach, Paul Warne, announced his intention to alter the starting eleven for the upcoming Championship fixture against Portsmouth on Friday evening. Previously, the Rams’ manager had implemented five changes following their 2-0 loss to Leeds for the Tuesday match at Burnley, a game from which Derby secured a hard-fought point. Citing another three-day interval between matches, Warne stated that the coaching staff is “trying to manage people as well as we can.” Speaking on BBC’s Rams Daily podcast, Warne acknowledged, “Obviously at times players don’t want to be managed; they want to play every minute of every game.” He further explained that these adjustments allow the team to remain “reasonably fresh” and will facilitate further changes for the upcoming game, ensuring they “start with a real fit group.” Warne expressed satisfaction, adding, “That’s what I’m pleased about the most with it, I think. We came out of it, got a point, and a really good vocal away following that we thank you for.” He concluded, “We get a point, no injuries, and we go into a home game.” Furthermore, Warne anticipates that defender Eiran Cashin will be available for the match against Pompey, despite earlier suggestions of a hamstring concern at Turf Moor. Warne commented, “He should be okay.” He elaborated, “He was a bit aware of something. He might have overdramatised it a little bit.” Warne reflected on the unpredictability of such situations, stating, “If Cashin’s injury had been worse, and he had to come off, they’re always the things in the game you can’t predict. But I’m hopeful that he might be able to play a part tomorrow night.” Paul Warne’s complete pre-match press conference is accessible on BBC Sounds.
