Former Liverpool winger Mark Walters suggests that Liverpool should deploy a robust squad against Real Madrid and refrain from considering resting key players with Sunday’s Manchester City fixture in mind. Walters shared this viewpoint after observing Sunday’s victory over Southampton alongside BBC Radio Merseyside. Liverpool is set to host Los Blancos at Anfield on Wednesday. Subsequently, the team has an opportunity to establish an 11-point lead over champions City if they secure a win against them at Anfield on Sunday. Some supporters have raised questions regarding whether the Reds ought to rotate prominent players when facing the Spanish giants, given that Arne Slot’s side has performed exceptionally well in the Champions League this term. Walters stated: “I would play the strongest team in both games, mainly because confidence is a big thing in football. If we win on Wednesday and play well, that will carry on to the City game.” He further elaborated, “I would play a strong team against Real Madrid and hopefully that confidence from a good result will go on to the City game, which could be pivotal in the season.” Walters concluded by noting, “To be 11 points clear against a City team at this stage would be a psychological boost.”
