Children’s toys and gifts, valued at £4,000, have been destroyed in a vehicle fire. A van transporting these gifts caught fire in Walsall earlier this week, rendering the items damaged beyond repair, as stated by Walsall Council. The local authority is now appealing to local businesses for contributions of new toys, board games, crafts sets, and toiletries, suitable for children aged between five and 16. “Every child deserves a gift this Christmas, and we don’t want them to miss out on a gift because of this incident,” said Walsall councillor Stacie Elson. No individuals were injured in the blaze, which is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, the council confirmed. The gifts were being transported as part of the Cash 4 Kids Mission Christmas campaign, a program from which Walsall Council receives annual support. “We’re appealing to local businesses to see if they can help us replace the toys which have been damaged,” Elson added. She continued, “Christmas is a time for miracles, and we’re hoping our business community can rally together to ensure no child misses out.” A council spokesperson further indicated that unwrapped presents can be delivered to the Manor Farm Community Association in Rushall on weekdays, with the deadline for donations being 13 December.
