Volunteers have successfully retrieved a missing dog from the cliffs at Les Landes in Jersey. Three-year-old Lily disappeared late on Thursday during a walk with her owner, Jules Barons. After conducting her own search, Ms Barons posted an appeal on social media and was surprised by the overwhelming response, as numerous volunteers arrived to assist. Lily was recovered from a narrow ledge on the side of a cliff after being located by a drone. Regarding the social media appeal, Ms Barons stated: “I knew that there was a dog rescue group, but I had no idea how many people would come forward.” Initially, the searchers found no trace, leading Ms Barons to fear the worst. However, upon their return at first light on Friday, one member spotted a tiny scrap of white, nearly 100ft (30m) down the cliff face. A drone was then called in to help identify Lily. Fearing that she might fall, the woman cautiously descended to the dog and managed to lead her to safety. Ms Barons remarked: “They are just an amazing group of people. To turn out in such numbers late at night, and to keep looking until they found Lily.” Lily is now back home and resting after her ordeal. She will require further vet treatment next week, but for now, her owners and rescuers are simply celebrating her survival. Follow BBC Jersey on X and Facebook.
