An appeal is being made for individuals to express their interest in volunteering for the 80th Guernsey Liberation Day celebrations. Organisers state that community support, whether for a few hours or in a leadership capacity, will significantly contribute to the success of the events. Assistance from volunteers is required for commemorative and celebratory activities in St Peter Port, along the cavalcade route, at parish events throughout the weekend, and for delivery support during Liberation week. Liberation Day commemorates the island’s liberation from occupation during World War Two. Wayne Bulpitt, chair of the Association of Guernsey Charities, stated, “We are hoping to build on the wonderful support the community gave the 2023 Island Games when we had an incredible response to help us deliver that fantastic week of sport.” The various voluntary positions will necessitate differing levels of physical fitness, and prospective volunteers can specify their preferred roles during the registration process. The Liberation Day Volunteer Team plans to contact interested individuals in the new year to provide additional information regarding available roles and time slots. To express interest, individuals should visit the Liberation Day page and select the “Get Involved” option. For updates, follow BBC Guernsey on X and Facebook.
