A volunteer sustained serious injuries during an incident at a railway museum. Thames Valley Police reported that emergency services responded to a “work-related incident” at the Didcot Railway Centre in Oxfordshire on Wednesday, shortly after 12:00 GMT. The individual who was injured was transported to a hospital via air ambulance. His current medical status is described as serious but stable. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway. The Didcot Railway Centre, which functions as both a railway museum and a preservation engineering site, spans more than 21 acres. It is home to a collection of Great Western Railway steam locomotives. South Oxfordshire District Council stated that it is currently engaged in discussions with the Health and Safety Executive to determine which agency will take the lead in the investigation. The council further commented, “As it will be subject to an active investigation, we would not say any more at this stage.” It also conveyed, “Our thoughts go out to the person who has been injured and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
