Approximately 40 Volkswagen vans, adorned with “epic” festive light displays, occupied a shopping center to support a charitable cause. The VeeDubs team convened at Cribbs Causeway in Bristol on Thursday. Their participation was part of the Shine Bright for Bristol Children’s Hospital campaign, aimed at generating funds for The Grand Appeal. According to organiser Steve Wright, the group’s intention was to contribute to spreading “a little bit of festive cheer”. Debbie Williams, whose van featured 4,500 Christmas lights for the occasion, remarked: “It’s just been brilliant. The smiles, the fun, collecting lights, it’s epic.” Ms Williams further noted: “Some people have up to 24,000 and more on their vans, can you believe it.” She concluded by stating: “What a brilliant community.” Certain vans featured unique additions, including the official Grand Appeal Jingles Gromit. Mr Wright confirmed, “He’s been safely strapped to the top of our van”. He also mentioned, “People have come as far down as Exeter and Taunton and from all over the region to take part.” These vans are presently touring Bristol in the period leading up to Christmas. Chris Tucker’s daughter received treatment for her epilepsy at Bristol Hospital three years prior. He stated, “We’ve seen the other side of the fence, we’ve seen how much worth The Grand Appeal provides.” He added, “Getting involved with Christmas VeeDubs has been a big thing for us and our children really enjoy it.” Concluding his remarks, he said, “We’re just spreading a little bit of festive cheer whilst we can.” The Christmas VeeDubs procession has accumulated £2,200 to date, with a target of £20,000 by the close of the year.
