A pedestrianisation trial is scheduled to commence on Saturday as part of an ongoing traffic improvement programme. The States of Alderney announced that the lower section of Victoria Street in Alderney would be closed to vehicles between Les Roquettes and Ollivier Street. The road closure will be in effect from 09:00 until 13:00 GMT on successive Saturdays, concluding on 4 January. The States of Alderney stated that this initial phase is intended to serve as a “soft opening” before a subsequent trial takes place during the island’s busier periods. It was further noted that the community would be afforded the chance to provide feedback. Alderney’s General Services Committee (GSC) approved the implementation of this phased traffic improvement programme after a thorough consultation process and a public survey. The responses gathered from the survey addressed various concerns, including parking, the quantity and dimensions of vehicles, policing, and abandoned vehicles. Proposals were developed in collaboration with the States Works Department and Bailiwick Law Enforcement, incorporating short, medium, and long-term solutions.
