The operator of Victoria Marina has announced the upcoming installation of new mooring pontoons, forming part of a £300,000 investment initiative. Guernsey Ports, responsible for managing the Bailiwick’s gateways, stated that the existing infrastructure has been operational for over five decades. The firm further indicated that installation is anticipated to commence in mid-December. It also noted that over the coming decade, more than £20 million in investment will be required to address the ageing infrastructure throughout Guernsey’s marinas. Jenny Giles, Guernsey Ports head of infrastructure, explained that the existing pontoons were constructed in the 1970s and have “reached the end of their design life.” She further stated, “The new pontoons are of similar design to those installed in the QE2 Marina earlier this year, with heavy-duty, galvanised steel frames supported by fibre-reinforced concrete floats.” Kieran Higgs, assistant harbour master, commented: “These pontoons are a significant upgrade on the current facilities and will provide secure berthing and improved facilities for our visiting boat owners for decades to come.” This project follows previous upgrade works conducted at both the Albert Marina and Fish Quay. Ports of Guernsey indicated that the work will be scheduled during the marina’s quietest periods to minimize disruption and prevent revenue loss during the visitor season.
