A woman, who experienced indecent assault as a teenager by Northern Ireland’s ex-chief fire officer, has stated that he groomed her from their initial meeting. Nikella Holmes has relinquished her right to anonymity to publicly address the offenses committed by Gary Thompson, who received an eight-month jail sentence after pleading guilty to two charges of indecent assault. Thompson, aged 56, residing at Rogan Wood in Newtownabbey, received his sentence at Belfast Crown Court on Thursday. The judge commented that Ms Holmes had demonstrated “courage and persistence” throughout the legal proceedings and had been “exploited and subjected to serious offending”. The court heard that the offenses occurred over a period of four months in 2006. During that time, Ms Holmes, a resident of Ballymena in County Antrim, was 15 years old, while Thompson was 38. She informed BBC News, “People really need to understand that predators can be people we like. They can be people we respect. They can be people that we least expect.” She detailed how Thompson subjected her to abuse while he served as her church youth leader in 2006. The court was informed that text messages exchanged between the two began as “playful” but quickly turned “flirtatious and sexualised”. It was revealed that Thompson would collect Ms Holmes from her family residence in the early morning hours after she had secretly left, transporting Post navigation Court Rules Police Can Seize Over £2 Million From Tate Brothers Police Officers Fundraise to Replace Stolen Gifts for Elderly Woman
