An individual has been apprehended in connection with an alleged distraction theft, occurring within the scope of an initiative by a recently established roads policing division. According to West Midlands Police, a driver of a van was taken into custody in Wolverhampton, suspected of having participated in the theft of several thousand pounds from an elderly individual. Law enforcement officials reported that his arrest led to the recovery of currency, attributing this success to the efforts of the new team. Police further stated that, during the unit’s inaugural month, the broader operation also resulted in the confiscation of armaments and illicit substances. Supt Gareth Mason stated that “police teams had been tasked with targeting criminals who use the road network. They would focus on tackling serious and organised crime as well as reducing the major causes of serious and fatal crashes.” The police force indicated its intention to deploy smaller, high-performance unmarked vehicles for the first time. Police reported that recent achievements include the confiscation of a knife and Class A drugs following a pursuit of a stolen Ford Focus in Coventry, and the interception of a VW Golf that had been stolen in a carjacking and was subsequently discovered operating with cloned license plates in Erdington.
