A £12 million urgent treatment centre (UTC) is slated for construction with the purpose of alleviating congestion in accident and emergency departments. The Accident and Emergency department at Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, originally designed to manage 30,000 patients annually, handled 78,300 individuals last year. North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC), the organization operating the hospital, indicated that overcrowding has the potential to cause “issues with privacy and dignity for our patients.” Financial resources have been secured, enabling the commencement of building work on the urgent treatment centre in the new year, with the facility projected to open by the close of 2025. This UTC will be constructed adjacent to the current emergency department and will incorporate 12 clinic rooms. Cumbria Health, a provider of out-of-hours GP services, will also be situated within the same building. Mike Rickards, a consultant in emergency medicine at NCIC, stated that the centre is anticipated to create additional capacity for patients “who are acutely unwell.” Post navigation 12-Year-Old Girls Honored for Bravery at Awards Ceremony Registration for NHS Dental Waiting List Urged After Surgery Experiences Call Surge
