An urgent call has gone out for a bugler or trumpet player to play at an upcoming remembrance service. The Bourne and District branch of The Royal British Legion, located in Lincolnshire, stated that their regular musician sustained an injury and cannot perform. A substitute is required to play the Last Post and Reveille during the ceremony at Bourne War Memorial Gardens, scheduled to commence at 10:45 GMT this Sunday. According to Jake Jacobs, the branch secretary, a pre-recorded rendition might be used if no suitable individual volunteers. He stated: “We’re looking for any trumpeter or bugler who is confident to play. We have a big parade on Sunday and it’s really well attended and supported by the public”. He further noted that a live performance holds significant importance for attendees and provides “more impact”. In past years, a variety of musicians, such as schoolchildren and buglers from different counties, have participated. Nevertheless, the branch has reached out to schools and posted requests on social media in recent days, but these efforts have not yielded a performer. Mr. Jacobs expressed continued optimism that a substitute musician could be located. He remarked: “This will be the first year, if we don’t get anybody, that we will have to use an electronic version,” adding, “Hopefully a trumpeter or bugler will respond to our request.” Individuals willing to volunteer are encouraged to contact the Bourne branch directly.
