The top level of a car park at a city’s main railway station is set for demolition, citing safety reasons. Greater Anglia, the train operator, has announced that demolition activities are scheduled to commence at Colchester [North] on Monday and are expected to conclude within December. The upper deck has remained inaccessible to the public since July, following the expression of safety concerns by engineers. Plans for the upcoming year include the addition of a new road segment and a pedestrian walkway encircling the car park. Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia’s asset management director, issued an apology for any potential inconvenience caused. “We know many people choose to park at our station, and this essential work will improve the car park at Colchester,” she said. Greater Anglia confirmed that motorists can continue to utilize the remaining sections of the car park and stated that there are no concerns regarding insufficient capacity.
