A revised timetable will be implemented across the railway industry starting Sunday. These adjustments will introduce additional services throughout the South East, with some routes gaining extra carriages to provide more seats for passengers. Services operated by Southeastern, Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), and South Western Railway will all undergo modifications. The following details the key changes and their potential effects on journeys. Southeastern announced in July that the new timetable, effective December 15, will introduce an additional 220 trains per week, consisting of 44 new services daily. Scott Brightwell, Southeastern’s operations and safety director, stated: “With this timetable change, we are providing more services and opportunities to travel by train.“The new services will make it easier to travel for work, to see family and friends or for education and healthcare appointments.” GTR manages Thameslink, Southern, and Gatwick Express services. Regarding changes to its network, Southern’s customer services director Jenny Saunders commented: “We are pleased to bring in a number of changes for passengers across our network in the new December timetable, having developed it alongside our regular users and key partners.“Commuters travelling on Southern trains across the south east will feel the benefits with an additional service running between the coast and the capital in rush hour and also to and from East Grinstead in the evenings.” South Western Railway (SWR) primarily operates routes between London Waterloo and Southampton Central, Portsmouth Harbour, and Exeter St David’s, all of which pass through Surrey. The company reported “no significant changes to train times” but indicated that some trains on main line routes would have extra carriages to “match capacity to demand.” However, SWR services via Woking will experience disruptions on December 15 and between December 23 and January 5 due to engineering work. Some trains will be diverted, and journey times are expected to be significantly longer than usual, prompting passengers to plan ahead. Rail replacement buses will also be in operation. All train times can be verified using any train operator’s journey planner or Network Rail’s equivalent. For further information, BBC Surrey can be followed on Facebook and X.
