Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has indicated that the team’s confidence is on the upswing following their 1-0 victory against Southampton. Jhon Duran’s decisive goal in the first half propelled Villa to the fifth position in the league standings, placing them only two points adrift of Manchester City in fourth. This recent improvement, marked by consecutive home triumphs over Brentford and Southampton, signifies a recovery in performance after an eight-game winless streak had previously disrupted their season. Emery commented on the team’s display, stating: “Today was not good with the weather and the supporters were here with us and trying to send us their energy. We played better and [are] getting confidence and understanding how we can improve. “With the victory and Wednesday [against Brentford] as well we are feeling better. The effort from the players was fantastic. “It was a difficult match as well, when they were keeping possession we needed to press them. They were getting some chances as well but eventually we were improving.” Furthermore, Emery confirmed that forward Leon Bailey is anticipated to be sidelined for as long as three weeks. Bailey exited the game in the second half due to a hamstring injury. “It’s a hamstring. He didn’t feel a lot but I think minimum one, two, three weeks probably,” Emery added.
