An upgrade project for a bus station situated in an East Sussex town centre has reached its completion. According to East Sussex County Council, the bus station located off Bell Lane in Uckfield now features modern bus shelters equipped with planted roofs and wireless charging points, along with enhanced real-time information displays, upgraded street lighting, and a new cycle shelter. Councillor Claire Dowling, who serves as the local authority’s lead member for transport and environment, expressed her “delighted” reaction to the project’s conclusion. She stated, “I’d like to thank the public for their patience while work was carried out and hope they can now enjoy the benefits.” Balfour Beatty Living Places executed the work, which was finalized in collaboration with Wealden District Council and Uckfield Town Council. Over £800,000 in investment was secured from a combination of development contributions, county council funding, and allocations from the East Sussex Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP). This funding also covered the installation of a new loading bay, a new footway, and crossing points along the southern side of Bell Walk, in addition to benches and planters. Ms Dowling expressed her hope that these improvements would encourage a greater number of individuals to utilize public transport. She added, “As well as improving the look of the area, the project has resulted in better facilities for passengers and the enhanced real time information will help people better plan their journeys.” Post navigation Council Leader Warns Services May Be ‘Squeezed Out’ Amid Local Government Overhaul Charity Regulator Investigates Concerns Over Councillor’s Role in Leisure Centre Reopening
