Tyrrell Hatton has been selected for the Great Britain and Ireland team, which is set to compete against Continental Europe in the 2025 Team Cup in Abu Dhabi. Hatton’s inclusion is considered a boost for the Englishman’s prospects of participating in next year’s Ryder Cup, following his return to the DP World Tour, which recently saw him secure a third Dunhill Links title. The 33-year-old golfer has represented Europe in the last three Ryder Cups. However, his involvement in the upcoming matches against the United States in New York had been uncertain due to his decision to join LIV Golf. Hatton has since returned to DP World Tour competition in recent months after successfully appealing the sanctions imposed by the tour for his participation in LIV Golf events without permission. The Team Cup, which Continental Europe won last year, will be held at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort’s National Course from January 10-12. Joining Hatton on playing captain Justin Rose’s team are world number nine Tommy Fleetwood, who is the highest-ranked player in the event, and Northern Ireland’s Tom McKibbin, who last week secured his PGA Tour card for 2025. Continental Europe’s team, led by playing skipper Francesco Molinari, includes Ryder Cup players Nicolai Hojgaard and Thorbjorn Olesen. Spain’s Sergio Garcia, who intends to rejoin the DP World Tour for the 2025 season in an attempt to qualify for the Ryder Cup, is not on the roster. Similarly, LIV’s two-time major winner Jon Rahm, who has also recently played on the DP World Tour, is not included. The final player for each side will be chosen after the Nedbank Golf Challenge on December 8. Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald commented on the event’s importance, stating: “This event provided valuable insight for a number of players who eventually made it to Marco Simone, with six of the 20 competitors in 2023 going on to play in the Ryder Cup, three of those making their debut appearances. We’re excited to see who can make their mark next year as they try and earn a place in my side for New York.” The full roster for Continental Europe is: Francesco Molinari, Nicolai Hojgaard, Rasmus Hojgaard, Matteo Manassero, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, Niklas Norgaard, Thorbjorn Olesen, Matthieu Pavon, Antoine Rozner. The Great Britain and Ireland team consists of: Justin Rose, Laurie Canter, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, Aaron Rai, Jordan Smith, Matt Wallace, Paul Waring.
